The course at the Southbroom Country Club
If I had to use one word to describe the Southbroom Golf Club, that word will be ‘elegant.’ This course is beautifully manicured, set in an upmarket residential area, bordered by the Frederika Nature Reserve on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other and will provide you with a fun round of golf that will have you coming back for more again and again.
The layout is demanding and tight and will challenge you at every hole, with its own unique testing feature, while birds and the occasional monkeys will keep you company as you play against the breathtaking backdrop of the coastline at your side and the lush coastal vegetation around you. The 4th and 5th tees have magnificent sand and breakers views and you might just be lucky enough to catch glimpses of dolphins or even seasonal whales frolicking in the water.
The par 3 4th hole is undeniably the most picturesque as the tee box is practically just above the beach with the waves crashing around you as you hit your tee shot into the south easterly wind towards the green that is deceptively long. The devilish wind will be the deciding factor whether you will be hitting a full force four iron or only a gentle wedge.
The par 3 8th is played from elevated tees over a water hazard to a green with a bunker on the right and water in front and to the left. The par 5 17th is tight and narrow with ‘trouble’ to the left and right making the green exceptionally well protected. Every shot will have you carefully considering your choice of club.
Take extra balls with you! Be warned that this course is ball hungry and once you hit into the dense bush you will find yourself doing the walk of shame to get a new ball from your bag more often than you thought possible.
This very special course is very popular, so do book well in advance to ensure your tee off time.
