The Umkomaas Golf Club

Playing golf at the Umkomaas golf club is like visiting an old friend – it doesn’t have the reputation for being the friendliest club for nothing; here you (and your family) are always welcome.  It is the third oldest course in KwaZulu Natal and the majestic old indigenous trees will attest to this.  The trademark amazing views over the Indian Ocean from most of the Tee’s will underline the pleasure of playing this course.

Sheltered by the coastal forest it is somewhat protected from the coastal wind that can play havoc with plans for a smooth game.   Enjoy the views but know you are in for a testing round of golf.  Whether you are high or low handicapped this course will challenge your skills.  ‘Big hitters’ will enjoy the longer holes but the shorter holes will demand careful planning and accurate play.  The course is however forgiving enough for those who simply want a fun round in a picturesque setting.

There are several unique features:

• There are no water hazards,
• The greens are raised due to the 100 plus years of top dressings,
• Many well styled bunkers that will challenge,
• The rough is mowed to a reasonable height but trouble awaits you if you go off course,
• Golf lessons for children are on offer.

On Saturday mornings a golf clinic (KidzGolf) is held for children to be taught the basics as well as the rules and etiquette of golf.  This is a wonderful program to develop the next generation of golfers.  Anyone is welcome and all equipment will be supplied free of charge. 

Umkomaas has produced several world class golfers such as including Tim Clark, Manny Zerman and Garth Mulroy.
